SmartBIO aims to accelerate innovation on nature-inspired emerging technologies and sustainable circular bioeconomy strategies to support the transition toward fossil-free society

At the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University  and in the Turku Science Park Ltd we have a large number of experienced scientists, enthusiastic students as well as ambitions entrepreneurs working in fields closely related to sustainable bioeconomy resources. This essentially includes the forest sector, which will continue to be of ultimate importance for Finnish economy. Our expertise also covers basic research on photosynthesis. Additionally, our expertise provides possibilities for developing novel biorefinery technologies for wood biomass and production of new-to-nature commodity and high-value chemicals using clean technologies.
