Dr. Esa Tyystjärvi (UTU) got a research grant of 300 000 euros

SmartBio group leader Esa Tyystjärvi from the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Plant Biology, University of Turku, received 300 000 euro funding for a “Maaseudun innovaatioryhmä (EIP)” for his project “Hukkakauran ja muiden rikkakasvien tunnistaminen pienoishelikopterikuvista“. The project will develop methods for computer-based identification of crop and weed plants, especially common wild oat (Avena fatua) and for evaluation of the physiological state of the crop plants by using field photographs taken from a drone. The project is collaboration between the Molecular Plant Biology Unit, the Department of Future Technologies, and local farmers.
